About Us
Founded in 2004 by Missy Lavender, Women’s Health Foundation has sought to bring sensitive and stigmatized women’s pelvic health issues out of hiding and into the light. Guided by the mission "To improve the pelvic health and wellness of all women and girls," WHF is continually taking steps to empower women with knowledge, and in turn, take control of their bodies.
After giving birth to her first child in 1999, Missy Lavender could no longer laugh, sneeze or lift her baby without leaking. Additionally, it became extremely difficult to hold her bladder before making it to the bathroom. Her problems, stress urinary incontinence (SUI), urge incontinence (UI), and uterine prolapse affect millions of women, yet it came as a surprise to her. In her quest for treatment, Missy discovered the limited resources available to women. Armed with focus and determination she set out to help herself and other women to regain control of their pelvic health and wellness.
Today, Women’s Health Foundation is made up of individuals united in their goal to have this sisterhood of silence become a sisterhood of strength: connecting, educating and empowering women who struggle with pelvic health issues. The foundation is rapidly becoming the nation’s most visible and passionate champion of women’s pelvic wellness issues.
