Nepal Medical Mission: Samrupa's Story

This is the story of Samrupa, a 14 year old girl with uterine prolapse. Samrupa's case is unique because she has never given birth which is a leading factor for prolapse. Due to her condition she is ostracized from her community and no one (not even her own brothers or sisters) will let her live and serve them once her mother passes away.

Because of her youth, Samrupa is not a candidate for surgery which her mother literally BEGGED us to perform. However, Samrupa is an excellent candidate to use a pessary, which is a small device that women wear to abate prolapse and incontinence. The pessaries used in Nepal are incredibly outdated and archaic compared what we have here in the states. Our pessaries are cheap too - about $60.00 each. Thus, Women's Health Foundation is conducting a pledge to help both women and girls like Samrupa as well as under served women here in Chicago. If you donate just $60.00, you can help change one woman's life. To donate go to www.womenshealthfoundation.org or call us at 773-305-8200 for more information.
